What is a Vascular Surgeon?

A vascular surgeon is a medical doctor who has completed four years of study in medical school, then trained for four to six years in a General Surgery residency program, followed by a one- to two-year Vascular Surgery fellowship. Beyond this, university vascular surgeons have typically spent one to three years in additional research training.

Vascular Surgery is a sub-specialty of general surgery. This training provides a vascular surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and medical/surgical management of vascular disease including minimally invasive endovascular techniques.

What is the Treatment Process?

To manage diseases, our vascular surgeons perform:

In particular, we emphasize minimally invasive approaches to occlusive disease using angioplasty and stenting. Most abdominal aortic aneurysms can also be considered for endoluminal repair (endografting).

Catheter-Based Treatments

Our out-patient clinic visits are scheduled in the Cardiovascular Center, University Hospitals and Clinics, 50 N Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132

If you would like to schedule an appointment with one of our vascular surgeons, you will most likely need a referral from your primary care physician so he or she is usually the best place to start asking about vascular specialist medical care.
