Andrology Laboratory Services

When faced with infertility, most couples will begin evaluation and therapy with either their gynecologist or general practitioner. The Andrology Laboratory is available to physicians as a reference laboratory to evaluate and assist in the treatment of the couple by providing diagnostic services.

Generally, the semen analysis is the “starting point” in the evaluation of male infertility. It reveals information about the sperm concentration, motility, morphology, viability as well as other indications of fertilizing ability. Abstinence time, method of collection and conditions such as stress or anxiety can all influence the semen quality of the ejaculate.

A signed physician’s requisition order for a diagnostic analysis and pre registration with University Health Care are required to make an appointment with the Andrology Lab. Once the analysis is performed, the results are interpreted and mailed to the referring health care provider in 7-10 calendar days. The patient will need to contact his care provider for the results.
