Subaortic Stenosis
This is narrowing of the area below the aortic valve causing increased pressure and work for the left ventricle. The most common form involves a very discrete or localized “membrane” underneath the aortic valve. In more severe or complicated forms, there can be a long segment of narrowing caused by muscle underneath the aortic valve in the outflow portion of the left ventricle. Surgical correction: Consists of removing the “membrane” from the inside of the heart and the aortic valve. In the more severe forms, muscle must also be removed to relieve the obstruction. |
